  1. Means ± SD. An ANOVA showed no significant difference in age by GOLD category but significant differences for pack years, FEV1 % predicted, FEV1/FVC % and DLCO % Predicted. (p < 0.0001 for all comparisons) Among smokers there was no significant difference in pack years by GOLD category. Control smokers – 14/21 Current smokers, GOLD 1 - 6/9 Current smokers. GOLD 2 – 9/10 Current smokers and GOLD 3 – 2 Current smokers and one status unknown. Current smoker = within 6 months of surgical resection.
