Among the 4982 patients diagnosed with ARDS in the 2012 Japanese nationwide administrative database (diagnostic procedure combination), the data of the 2707 patients who met the inclusion criteria were used. Of these 2707 patients, 927 received high-dose corticosteroid treatment, and 1780 received non-high-dose corticosteroid treatment within 7 days of admission. We employed propensity score weighting with a Cox proportional hazards model in order to minimize the bias associated with the retrospective collection of data on baseline characteristics and compared the mortality between the two groups
