Working model of SUV39H1 in the Th1/Th2 balance and its impact on inflammation in COPD. Normal SUV39H1 expression controls Th1 genes and maintains the balance between Th1 and Th2 responses. Eosinophilic inflammation can occur when Th2 stimulation is present. In more severe COPD, the depleted expression of SUV39H1 skews immunity towards Th1 inflammation, suppressing any possible eosinophilic inflammation and causing more dominant neutrophilia and COPD comorbidities
