a Lung adenocarcinoma. scattered clusters of adenocarcinoma cells show a three-dimensional adenoid structure, with deviated nuclei, crowded arrangement, high nuclear-to-plasma ratio, coarse nuclear chromatin, and intracytoplasmic vacuoles. HEx40. b Lung squamous cell carcinoma. scattered squamous cells show abundant cytoplasm, enlarged and darkly stained nuclei, irregular morphology. HEx40. c Lung small cell cancer. Cancer cells are round or elliptical, and can be arranged into loose cell clusters. The nuclei are irregular, easily deformed and are stained in different shades, relatively fine, no nucleoli are seen. HEx40. d Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. Scattered atypical lymphoid large cells in the background of necrosis. The nuclei are large and darkly stained, round or oval, with rough nuclear chromatin and nuclear debris. HEx40
