  1. COPD patients of GOLD grades 1–4 were pooled into two groups. Mean values ± SD are given. There were significant differences between groups in the distribution of men and women, as well as age, height and BMI (p < 0.05 each, ANOVA). Groups were also significantly different from each other (p ≤ 0.001 each, ANOVA) in the parameters involving TLC and DLCO, with significant differences between all pairs of groups (p < 0.05, Duncan post hoc comparisons).
